Can You Relate to the Little Engine that Could?

Can you relate to “the little engine that could”? Does your attitude convey, “I think I can” message most days? I ask these questions after taking a closer look at the impact our attitudes have on the track our lives may take or where we end up in life.

Recently, I preached on the topic, “Character Building Blocks.” In this Message we focused on the elements that build character. Attitude and actions that are fueled by our attitudes were two of the building blocks.  In this message, I used the example of the children’s story about the” little engine that could.”  I shared numerous examples of what happens when we truly walk the talk in believing that with God’s help we can do anything. The joy and peace experienced with a positive attitude far outweighs what happens when we choose to always sing the “somebody done me wrong song”.

As I explored this topic we were reminded of the Scripture,  Galatians 5:22-23 that reads

22″But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Through the reading of Scripture and reflection of my personal journey, I see the affects my own attitude has had on where I am today. I cannot help but wonder how many doors would not have opened or how many relationships I would have missed if I did not try hard to possess  positive attitudes that generate positive actions? So much of the joy we experience comes from the attitudes we possess. Do yourself a favor right now… stop and take a candid look at what may be stopping you from experiencing true joy?

What can you do differently to be more like the little engine that could? Let’s dialogue, I’d love to hear your experiences.
